Therapy Services
- A Musculoskeletal Outpatient Service is provided for patients who
live in the Tewkesbury area, who either refer themselves or are referred
by GPs, Consultants and other Health Professionals. The department is open
8am – 4.30pm, Monday – Friday.
- An inpatient Physiotherapy Service is provided to the patients on
Severn Ward and Avon Ward from Monday to Friday. There is no on-call Physiotherapy
Service available.
- Adult Domiciliary physiotherapy provides rehabilitation for patients
within their own homes, residential homes or nursing homes. This service
is for patients who are unable to attend the Outpatient Department or where
assessment and treatment within the patients’ home environment is
more appropriate. The aim of the service is to promote independence and
prevent admission to hospital and long term care. The service provides
rehabilitation where appropriate and advice to palliative care patients
and their families.
- An inpatient Occupational Therapy Service is provided to the patients
on Severn Ward and Avon Ward from Monday to Friday, including carrying
out home visits with patients. There is no on-call Occupational Therapy
Service available.
Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit
- The Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is an outpatient service
within a multidisciplinary team providing neurological and general rehabilitation.
Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists work with other members of
the team in order to promote independence and maximise patient’s
potential. The service is open Monday to Thursday.
Diagnostic Services
- X-ray available Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 4.30pm (no
service available out of hours)
- Open access for chest x-ray referrals (no need to make an appointment)
between 11.00am – 12noon only, Monday to Friday
- All appointments made in advance, although support to Outpatients,
Minor Injuries and the wards provided on demand
- Ultrasound services provided by a visiting sonographer on Friday
mornings
Support Services
- Hotel services which offers comprehensive choice for all individuals
- Chaplaincy for the Hospital is from Tewkesbury Abbey and also from
the local Catholic Church and local Churches Together Group
Emergency Care
- Nurse led minor injury/illness cover with G.P. support when
necessary.
Please note that since November 1st 2006 the opening times of the Minor Injuries Unit has changed to 8am until 8pm

Voluntary Sector Connections
- Tewkesbury Hospital League of Friends provide regular support, such
as fundraising, to the hospital
- Ladies from the Methodist Church supply and arrange flowers for the
Hospital entrance and Chapel
- Tewkesbury Hospital has a team of volunteers who are a huge help
to the hospital
Hospital Facilities
- Free parking with designated area for disabled patients
- Facilities are available for relatives to stay overnight if they
wish
- Hairdresser (a charge is made for this service)
- Massage for inpatients (free of charge to palliative care patients otherwise a charge is made for this service)
