Cheltenham based management and strategy consultant, Richard Busby has been appointed to the NHS Gloucestershire Board as a Non Executive Director.

The Appointments Commission has confirmed the appointment of Richard, who takes up his role this month and will serve an initial 4 year term from 1st January 2010 to 31st December 2013.

He will join the current Non-Executive Director Team, which is made up of local people drawn from the community served by NHS Gloucestershire.

Richard will bring with him a great deal of experience in different roles such as management consultancy, marketing and business development and will help to ensure that the organisation continues to be accountable to the public and manages its resources effectively.

He will also play a key role in overseeing the development of external relationships with local residents, patients, local government and other partner organisations.

Chair of NHS Gloucestershire, Ruth FitzJohn, said: “With Richard’s background providing management consultancy, business development and customer services support to major UK companies, I’m sure he will be a great addition to the non executive team as we focus on meeting local priorities for our patients.”

Richard Busby said: “I am passionate about local health services and I am really pleased to be joining the NHS Gloucestershire team at this time. The NHS faces some real challenges in continuing to make significant improvements to services within the current economic climate, which means we must be even more innovative and efficient in planning and delivering services for patients in the future.”

NHS Gloucestershire’s Non Executive Directors have strong connections into all six district and boroughs that make up Gloucestershire’s communities.

Together the Non Executive Directors have experience and interests in young people’s services, older people’s services, mental health, regeneration and the voluntary sector, change management and effective financial scrutiny.

Appointees are entitled to remuneration of £7,882 a year, which is the current rate for non-executive members of Primary Care Trusts.

The appointment has been made by the Appointments Commission in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice.

All Non-Executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Richard Busby has declared no political activity.
