Patient Experience Survey to help shape future services

Patient Experience Survey to help shape future services

19.06.2009

Patients living in the county who are registered with a GP Practice in Wales will next week receive a questionnaire from NHS Gloucestershire.

This is to ensure that public views can help shape future health planning and services.

Around 6,500 patients who live in the Forest of Dean District will be given the opportunity to feedback on their experiences of healthcare, including: GP services, Out of Hours care and hospital services.

The survey will ask for feedback on why patients chose to register with their particular GP practice, views on travel times to the surgery, their experience of care and communication.

In the section covering Out of Hours services, patients will be invited to feedback on telephone contact, visiting an out of hours primary care centre, home visiting services and the care and treatment provided.

Patients will also be able to respond to a set of questions relating to their experience of being referred to hospital, including the choices offered to them, waiting times for appointments, their treatment and the quality of the hospital environment.

The final section of the survey gives patients the opportunity to have their say on the range of services they have experienced on both sides of the border, asks whether they were offered a choice of registering with a GP practice in England and their views on being registered with a GP practice in England.

Chief Executive of NHS Gloucestershire, Jan Stubbings said:

“We place great emphasis on learning from feedback such as this and the survey is one way of ensuring that we have a comprehensive picture of how these particular residents who live in border areas view services in terms of access, choice and quality of care.”

“We have listened very carefully to the recent debates and discussions on this important issue and once we have received the survey findings we will give very careful consideration to what related actions may be necessary when planning services for the future.”
