'Germs: Wash your hands of them' at 'Clean Your Hands' Launch

05/09/2008

Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust is aiming to build on the downward trend in healthcare associated infections within its community hospitals when it launches Year Three of the ‘Clean your Hands’ campaign, in association with Health Protection Scotland, on Monday 8 September at Cirencester Hospital.

The message for this year is "Germs: Wash your hands of them".

As part of the high profile campaign, posters that are completely new to the county are being introduced in all community hospitals.

This initiative, in conjunction with alternative care settings for the ‘5 Opportunities for Hand Hygiene’ adopted by the PCT, will ensure that successful hand hygiene remains a high priority for all care staff and help maintain the high levels of hand hygiene compliance recorded month on month across the PCT.

Director of Infection Prevention and Control, Dr Philippa Moore explained:

"Now that we are looking even harder for MRSA by screening all patients coming to stay in hospital, it is more important than ever that we maintain the high standards of hand hygiene we have achieved with the campaign so far. The Infection Prevention and Control team want to thank all patients, visitors and staff for their participation in the campaign, and would like to encourage everyone to keep up the good work!"
