Audit Report Shows Strong Improvement in Financial Management

Audit Report Shows Strong Improvement in Financial Management

02/10/2008

Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust has today welcomed a report from the independent watchdog, the Audit Commission which confirms that the NHS locally has made significant improvements in its financial performance.

The third annual Auditors’ Local Evaluation (ALE) report from the Audit Commission, published today (2 October), assesses how well organisations manage and use their financial resources.

Auditors have evaluated Trusts and PCTs in areas such as financial reporting, financial management and value for money.

The report shows an overall picture of financial improvement for Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust in 2007/2008, with progress in all of the key areas which also includes financial standing and internal control.

The PCT’s overall score has improved from a 2 (at minimum requirements – adequate performance) in 2006/2007 to a 3 (consistently above minimum requirements – performing well) in 2007/2008.

Director of Business Development and Performance at Gloucestershire PCT, Sarah Truelove said:

“The Primary Care Trust has recognised the need to strike the right balance between improving the way we provide services to patients in local communities whilst ensuring that the NHS locally lives within its means.”

“This is a challenging objective for any organisation to set itself, but through their commitment to patient care and their responsiveness to change, our staff, and the staff of other local NHS organisations, are helping us to achieve our objectives and ensure strong financial management.”

Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust, Jan Stubbings said:

“We have recognised that achieving financial stability is vital if we are to begin to plan future investments which will benefit Gloucestershire people in the longer term.”

“I would like to extend my thanks to all staff across the primary care trust for their hard work in delivering these significant improvements in financial performance – it is a strong platform from which to build.”
