Stroud Maternity is Baby Friendly!

The Baby Friendly Initiative works with the health care system to ensure a high standard of care for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers and babies.

Achieving the full accreditation has been a long process over a five-year period. Staff at the Maternity Hospital have received training that includes a one-day basic course and an annual refresher course on breastfeeding, which is well utilised along with evidence-based guidelines.

This achievement follows a positive Healthcare Commission review in 2007 which highlighted that maternity services in Gloucestershire were going from strength to strength. Many patients who had given birth at Stroud Maternity and contributed to a patient survey were happy with their experience.
