Boost for Springbank Community Resource Centre

09/06/2008

Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust and the local community partnership in Springbank have today confirmed that the St Catherines and Royal Well GP Practices will be providing services at the Community Resource Centre development.

This a joint venture between the Practices, who as well as providing services to their existing patients from their main surgeries at St Pauls Medical Centre and in the case of St Catherines from their branch surgery at Hesters Way Healthy Living Centre, will now establish a new service from the Community Resource Centre in Springbank to meet the needs of patients in that area.

Partners at the two GP Practices will now be working hard to set up the surgery and are aiming to have nurse led advice and education services in place as early as August.

Dr Phil Fielding from the Royal Well Surgery said:

“We are really pleased to have been awarded the contract and will now be turning our attention to establishing high quality and safe services for local patients.”

“We will be providing a range of GP and nurse led services at the Community Resource Centre, but we will need to be realistic about what can be achieved by August. We hope to have established some services to the community by then and we will be striving to develop services further by the Autumn once registration arrangements for patients have been confirmed.”

Dr Graham Wilson from St Catherines Surgery said:

“We know that the residents of Sprinbank have been waiting for this news for some time and we will be working in partnership with the other community services already in place at the centre to make the most of this exciting new project.”

The Community Resource Centre will have two consulting rooms and one treatment room available for primary care services.

Deputy Director of Commissioning and Primary Care at Gloucestershire PCT, Jackie Huck said:

“This is fantastic news for the local community and will ensure that local residents have improved access to primary care services closer to where they live.”

“We are confident that the successful consortium will provide excellent services at the centre in Springbank and this will complement the Partnership’s efforts to establish a wide range of community based services for the benefit of local people.”

“The views of local residents have been very important in this process, including community representation as part of the tendering process, and we would like to thank the Springbank community for their constructive involvement.”

Hesters Way Partnership Manager, Andy Hayes said:

“This is very welcome news indeed and we can now look forward to exciting developments over the Summer and Autumn as new services are gradually introduced. We look forward to building ever closer working relationships with the GPs and nurses and strong links between all those involved in the community resource centre project.”

The PCT will be confirming registration arrangements in the coming weeks once this has been agreed with the GP Practices concerned.
