PCT Welcomes Patient Survey Findings

Gloucestershire PCT has today welcomed a recent report which shows that overall, patient satisfaction with the quality of service provided by local GP surgeries is high.
The NHS Information Centre published the 2008 Patient Survey, which includes patient feedback on things like booking appointments with GPs and nursing staff, courtesy and dignity of care.
The results for Gloucestershire show that patient satisfaction is above the national average.
More than 500 people completed the survey between January and March 2008. Key results from the survey are:
- 91% of patients satisfied with booking an appointment urgently by telephone
- 87% of patients satisfied with being able to see a specific doctor
- 99% of patients felt that reception staff were courteous
- 96% of patients felt that GPs treated them with respect and dignity.
Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust, Jan Stubbings said:
“These results show that overall, patients in Gloucestershire are very positive about the care and treatment provided at local GP surgeries. I would like to congratulate practice staff for their tremendous contribution to patient care and the efforts being made to make improvements in many areas of service.”
“The PCT remains committed to working together with local GPs to plan for the future and provide the very best care and access to services for patients.”
Secretary of the Local Medical Committee in Gloucestershire, Dr Mike Forster said:
“It is really pleasing to see that the vast majority of patients are receiving a very good service from their GP surgery. The LMC applauds the hard work of local GPs and all of the practice staff who make such a positive contribution to patient care. We will work with the PCT to see where improvements can be made to ensure even greater satisfaction in the future.”
Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust has plans in place to spend £2 million on replacing and refurbishing a number of GP surgeries in Gloucestershire. The PCT is also in discussion with the Local Medical Committee about how they can support GP surgeries who may wish to consider extending their opening hours.
