29/08/2008
Gloucestershire’s older community will have their eyes opened to the many services and activities they can benefit from at an action packed exhibition at Kingsholm Rugby Stadium, Gloucester on 25 September (11am to 6pm).
The major event to support health and well-being in older age is being organised jointly by Gloucestershire County Council and Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust. It will include over 50 exhibits and demonstrations by older people for older people and will run from 11am to 6pm.
Highlights of the day will include:
- Information on services supporting health and well-being
- Talks and demonstrations throughout the day
- Art displays and musical activities
- Confidential advice on money and benefit entitlements
- Fun activities such as trying the Nintendo Wii or Tai Chi.
The day also involves the Celebrating the Achievements of Older People in Gloucestershire Awards, organised and hosted by the Village and Community Agents at 1-2pm.
Free Afternoon Tea will be available at the venue between 2 and 4pm.
The Primary Care Trust’s Annual General Meeting will be held from 6.30pm to 8.30pm under the same theme of active ageing and development of services for older people.
Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Primary Care Trust, Jan Stubbings said:
"We wanted to bring together a wealth of information on services and innovative projects and showcase it in an accessible and interactive way. We are expecting a big turnout on the day and are confident that people will have an enjoyable and rewarding time."
Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Adult Care at Gloucestershire County Council, Cllr Tony Hicks said:
"Gloucestershire’s older population is indeed full of life and this is a great way to let people know the many activities on offer to them in the county, as well as give them access to vital information on health and other services."
"This is the biggest event of its kind ever held in Gloucestershire. It carries an important message, but it also promises to be a lot of fun and I would encourage people to come along, watch some excellent entertainment, try out the activities and maybe even discover a new hobby."
Free coaches are available from several parts of the county to help those living in more rural areas to get to the event. Please call your local Village Agent or call 01452 427343 for more information.
