1,000 reasons for Ashley House
12/12/2007
Residential assessment and rehabilitation unit, Ashley House, in Cheltenham has
1,000 reasons to celebrate. Opened in October 2003, the unit will soon be providing care and support to its 1,000th patient.
Ashley House plays a crucial role in helping patients regain their confidence, mobility and independence. Many patients referred to the unit are discharged to home either with or without continuing rehabilitation support and find the experience highly beneficial.
NHS and Social Care staff believe that Ashley House is a shining example of how rehabilitation care should be provided in the future.
Operational & Development Manager (Social Care), Caroline Holmes, said: “Ashley House has helped many people live a more confident and independent life and as we welcome our 1,000th patient the unit continues to show its importance to community healthcare. We are delighted to have helped so many people.”
PCT Director of Care Services, John Ford, said: “This is a real milestone for the unit and the numbers speak for themselves. The success of the unit is a real tribute to the staff who work there and although the figure of 1,000 is significant, the personalised care and support received by the individual is the most important feature of the unit.”
Cllr Tony Hicks, Lead Cabinet Member Adult Services said: ”Ashley House is a joint partnership between Gloucestershire County Council and the NHS. We know from talking to older people in the county that they want to stay in their homes where possible. The intermediate care available at Ashley House enables clients to regain the skills and confidence they need to return to independent living.”
