Charity launches online donation and fundraising website
15/08/2007
The Gloucestershire Flood Relief Fund, which was formed a little over a week ago to help victims of the July 2007 floods in Gloucestershire, has launched a fundraising website at www.glosfloodrelief.org
People can now make online card payments to the charity. Another key aspect of the site is to act as a focus for fundraising activities to help raise more money for the fund. Already a number of fundraising activities have planned and more are in the pipeline. Concerts, charity dinners and bucket collections have already been confirmed and the Mayor of Gloucester will also be leading a sponsored walk from Walham Sub-station (Gloucester) to the Mythe Treatment Works (Tewkesbury).
As the total of money raised so far was announced as £569,275.88 Cllr Harjit Gill, Mayor of Gloucester and chairman of trustees of the fund, added:
“The floods brought out the best in the people of the county. Community spirit was tremendous. So far we’ve had great responses from businesses and the public and we hope that the proposed fundraising events and the ability to donate money online, by card, will raise even more money.”
Martin Greaves, fundraising co-ordinator for the fund, added:
“We already have a number of events confirmed and are working on more. We’re very keen to help the community with any fundraising events they have planned and I’d encourage people to contact me via the website or on 01452 740622 so that we can help with publicity.”
This weekend firefighters from Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service
will be out on the streets of Gloucester collecting money in buckets. A
full list of up to date events is available at www.glosfloodrelief.org
