Boil the Tap Water before Drinking

07/08/2007

Gloucestershire PCT has welcomed this next step towards getting back to normal in the county. It will make life slightly easier for residents.

We have come to this point after Severn Trent and the Drinking Water Inspectorate have been satisfied that the tap water meets the necessary requirements to issue a ‘boil water’ notice.

Previously our advice has been not to use tap water other than for sanitation purposes e.g. flushing, washing.

Our precautionary advice today is now to boil the tap water before drinking it, making ice, food preparation, including baby food and washing dishes.

You can use tap water, which has been cooled to bathe babies and small children.

We are aware that there will be an increase in water boiling, we would like to remind people to take due care when boiling water to avoid scalds and burns and to allow water to cool appropriately before using it.
